African American Travel in East Africa
They asked me why African Americans don't travel to East Africa and I wasn't sure how to answer them.
My first response was that most Americans think that the first place they should travel to outside of the USA is Europe and that is partly because we were colonized by England and that mindset has been planted in most of us. African Americans may have a fear of traveling to Africa because it reminds them of the horrific history associated with slavery.
Some friends and others think it is because the Africa they show on TV is one of starving children, military strife and lack of infrastructure and we have been conditioned to think that vacations should be luxurious and relaxing.
They Have Western Toilets
East Africa is beautiful and the people are some of the most open I have encountered during my travels. There is something for everyone from those who love the outdoors to those who want luxury. Below is a link to the food, some of our lodging and the bathrooms so that you will have an idea of what to expect if you go. Yes, they do have western toilets!
It is time to think outside of the normal US marketed vacations of the Cruises to the Caribbean, Holiday in Hawaii and Express Train Tours across Europe. There is so much more to the world that we should allow ourselves to be open to experiencing.
